RAMALLAH, Saturday, October 31, 2020 (WAFA) – Israeli army crackdown on peaceful Palestinian protests against the occupation and its policies in the occupied territories was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam daily said in its main front-page story headline that dozens were injured, one serious, in the Friday clashes, the Ibrahimi mosque was closed and settlers go on rampage south of Nablus.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said injuries in the occupation crackdown on popular resistance marches in Beit Dajan and Kufr Qaddoum. It also said three youths were injured in Jenin and a mother and her son were assaulted in Hebron.
Al-Quds said on this subject but lower on the front page that seven people were injured by Israeli army gunfire, one of them serious, and settlers sabotaged water and electricity networks in al-Sawiyeh.
Al-Quds also said that massive marches in Jerusalem, Dheisheh, the Gaza Strip, and inside 1948 Palestine in support of Prophet Mohammad and in condemnation of the offensive cartoons during which calls were made to boycott French products. It said Israeli police attacked the Jerusalem march.
The situation of Palestinian administrative detainee in Israel, Maher al-Akhras, after 96 days of hunger strike demanding his release were also highlighted on the front page of the dailies.
Al-Quds said al-Akhras has lost the ability to move and falls unconscious every hour.
It said protests in support of al-Akhras were held at home and abroad.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted a European Union spokesman saying that the EU was following up on the health situation of al-Akhras.
Al-Ayyam quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh calling on Italy during a meeting with the visit of the Italian foreign minister to Ramallah yesterday to recognize Palestine.
The main front-page story in al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas sent his condolences to his Turkish counterpart over the victims of the earthquake that hit Izmir.
The papers reported as well on their front page on the Izmir earthquake, the US elections, and the latest with the coronavirus at home, in the region, and in the world.
