RAMALLAH, Tuesday, October 13, 2020 (WAFA) – The intensive attempts by Israeli settlers to sabotage the vital Palestinian olive harvest in the occupied West Bank was highlighted on the front page of two of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam described the settlers’ actions as “war” and said in its main front-page headline: “The settlers are escalating their war against the olives.”
Al-Quds said settlers have attacked farmers and destroyed dozens of olive trees.
Al-Ayyam did not talk about this topic on its front page, which was instead dedicated to news about President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, on one hand, calling and congratulating the new prime minister of Jordan for assuming that post and, on the other hand, the Palestinian cabinet meeting and various statements by Shtayyeh on different topics.
It reported on Shtayyeh’s virtual meeting with the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament during which he urged Europe to play a more active role in any future Middle East political process and telling the committee members that Palestine does not have a political partner in Israel and never had an opportunity that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported on the cabinet meeting as well and Shtayyeh’s remarks. They also reported on the coronavirus pandemic in Palestine, the region, and the world, and said 10 deaths were recorded yesterday along with 395 new cases in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Al-Quds reported on the situation of the Palestinian hunger striker, Maher al-Akhras, and said he rejected an Israeli High Court recommendation for his release, insisting on seeing a ruling in favor of ending his administrative detention before ending his 79-day long hunger strike.
Al-Ayyam reported on the arrival in Israel of the first cargo ship coming from the United Arab Emirates and docking at Haifa seaport and said that a meeting is expected soon between the Israeli prime minister and the UAE’s crown prince.
It said an American-Israeli delegation is expected in Bahrain next week.
It also said the British government has started investigating the work of JCB company in the illegal Israeli settlements.
