RAMALLAH, Monday, October 05, 2020 (WAFA) – The latest toll of coronavirus disease in Palestine, the region and the world, as well as Israeli occupation army and settlers’ violations against Palestinians in the occupied territories, including settlement expansion and arson, were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The papers said the Palestinian Ministry of Health recorded one death and 420 new corona cases in the West Bank and Gaza yesterday, two deaths and 62 cases in East Jerusalem in two days and five deaths and 11 new cases among the Palestinian communities in the diaspora.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said, based on data provided by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, that 63 percent of the families will not be able to meet expenses if a new lockdown is imposed in Palestine.
Al-Quds said two Palestinian youths were shot and injured by the Israeli army in the southern West Bank city of Hebron as settlers cut olive trees in the northern city of Salfit.
It said Palestinians have warned of Israeli plans to expand settlements in the occupied territories as a prelude to annexation.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israel plans to build 5400 new housing units in the illegal settlements and quoted Turkey as condemning the Israeli settlement plans, saying this proves that Israel did not stop the annexation steps.
Al-Ayyam reported on the Palestinian reconciliation efforts and quoted Fatah Central Committee member Jibril Rjoub saying that a Fatah delegation is going to head to Damascus today for talks with the Palestinian factions based in Syria.
Al-Quds quoted Hamas saying that the outcome of the meetings with Fatah will be presented at the next general meeting for all the factions.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh traveled to Kuwait to give condolences to its leaders on the death of its ruler, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.
Al-Ayyam reported on the situation of US President Donald Trump after contracting the coronavirus.
Al-Quds said the US Congress is planning a new law that gives Israel veto power over US sale of weapons to the countries in the Middle East.
