RAMALLAH, Monday, September 21, 2020 (WAFA) – The death toll and new cases from the Coronavirus pandemic in Palestine and the region has dominated the front-page headlines of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Ayyam, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that nine people have died of the coronavirus in Palestine yesterday and 683 new cases were recorded.

Al-Quds said six have died in East Jerusalem and 146 new cases were recorded.

It also said Israel recorded 10 deaths to bring the overall total to 1236.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said 11 deaths were recorded in Lebanon and 239 new cases were recorded in Jordan.

Al-Ayyam said the authorities in Gaza have eased corona restrictions in the north of the Gaza Strip and in Gaza City.

In other news, al-Quds highlighted as its main front-page story intrusions into Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem by Jewish fanatics as Israel closed the Ibrahimi Mosque in the southern West Bank city of Hebron for Muslim worshippers while opening it only for Jews who marked the Jewish New Year.

It said Muslim officials have called on the public to attend prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque to ward off attempts by the Jewish fanatics supported by their government to change the status quo at the Muslim holy site.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted statements by the Algerian president in which he said that the Palestinian cause is sacred and that his country would not support normalization of relations with Israel.

The papers also quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh stressing the importance of strengthening the home front with elections.

The three papers gave coverage to reports about normalization plans with Israel with al-Quds saying that Sudan may go ahead with normalization in return for financial and economic aid.

Al-Ayyam said, based on an Israeli site, that a meeting will be held in Abu Dhabi to discuss Sudan’s normalization of relations with Israel.

It said one person was killed and three others injured in a collapse of a tunnel they were digging in the Gaza Strip.
