Weather forecast: Heavy to extreme heat stress to prevail

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, September 09, 2020 (WAFA) – The heavy to extreme heat stress is set to continue today, albeit less intensely, paving the way to dry and hot to extremely hot conditions in daytime, said the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

No significant change is expected in temperature which remains 5°C above the seasonal average. Weather tonight is mild in mountainous districts and relatively hot in other districts. Light to moderate northwesterly to westerly wind prevails. Sea waves are low.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 33°C and a low of 22°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 32°C and a low of 21°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 40°C and a low of 29°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 31°C and a low of 24°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

Thursday’s temperature is set to rise and approach 8°C above the seasonal average, causing the heavy heat wave to intensify.

Friday’s temperature is set to drop and approach 5°C above the seasonal average, causing the extreme heat stress to abate.

The same weather conditions are expected for Saturday.

PMD warns people against direct exposure to the sun for long period, especially from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, as well as against setting fire to dry grassy areas.
