Weather: Palestine remains under heatwave

RAMALLAH, Sunday, August 30, 2020 (WAFA) – Palestine remains under an extraordinary heatwave today yet with a further rise in temperature, which approaches 9-10°C above the seasonal average, said the Palestinian Meteorological Department.

Winds are northwesterly to northeasterly, light to moderate and occasionally gusty. Sea waves are low.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 39°C and a low of 25°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 38°C and a low of 24°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 48°C and a low of 31°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 37°C and a low of 27°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

Temperature slightly drops on Monday yet remains 7-8°C above the seasonal average.

Another drop in temperature is expected on Tuesday to approach 3-4°C above the average, with weather remaining hot in mountainous areas and extraordinarily hot in other areas.

People are warned against direct exposure to sunlight for long period, particularly from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, as well as against setting fire to dry grass.
