Weather: Heatwave hits Palestine, temperature 8°C above average

RAMALLAH, Saturday, August 29, 2020 (WAFA) – A heatwave is expected to hit Palestine today with the weather becoming hot to extremely hot and clear as temperature approaches 8°C above the seasonal average, said the Palestinian Meteorological Department.

Winds are northwesterly to northeasterly, light to moderate, occasionally gusty, and sea waves are low.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 37°C and a low of 25°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 36°C and a low of 24°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 47°C and a low of 31°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 36°C and a low of 27°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

Temperature rises further on Sunday approaching 9 to 10°C above the seasonal average, but slightly drops on Monday yet remains 7 to 8°C above the average.

Another drop in temperature is expected on Tuesday to approach 3 to 4°C above the average, said the PMD, which warned against direct exposure to sunlight for long period, particularly from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, as well as against setting fire to dry grass.
