Firefighters put out large paint factory fire south of Qalqilia

QALQILIA, Friday, August 21, 2020 (WAFA) – Palestinian Civil Defense firefighters Friday morning put out a large fire that broke out in a paint factory in Ras Atiya village, south of Qalqilia city.

Director of the Civil Defense Office in Qalqilia Hesham Mlawih said that firefighters rushed to the eastern part of the village, cordoned off the area and vacated the villagers and parked vehicles safely before extinguishing the fires.

The fires, he added, broke out in the paint factory, which covered an area of four donums, burning almost half of it, and engulfed a nearby house and two vehicles.

The Civil Defense firefighters, he pointed out, successfully prevented the fire, which lasted for over five hours, from spreading to the other part of the factory and nearby trees and farmlands.

Two firefighters were injured during the course of duty. They were rushed to a hospital in Qalqilia city, where medics described their injuries as light to moderate.
