Weather forecast: Heat stress set to increase

 

RAMALLAH, Thursday, August 13, 2020 (WAFA) – Weather today is partly cloudy and relatively hot in mountainous districts and hot in other districts in daytime with an additional slight rise in temperature, said the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Weather tonight is partly cloudy and mild in mountainous districts and warm in other districts in nighttime. Light to moderate westerly to northwesterly wind blows with occasional gusts. Sea waves are low.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 30°C and a low of 20°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 29°C and a low of 19°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 40°C and a low of 26°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 30°C and a low of 23°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

Friday’s temperature is set to further rise and approach 2°C above the seasonal average, paving the way to relatively hot to hot conditions in daytime and warm to mild conditions in nighttime.

An additional slight rise in temperature is expected on Saturday, paving the way to a heavy heat stress.

Sunday’s temperature is set to further rise and approach 4°C above the seasonal average, causing the heavy to extreme heat stress to prevail.

PMD warns people against direct exposure to sunlight for long hours, particularly from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
