RAMALLAH, Tuesday, August 11, 2020 (WAFA) – The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic besides to home demolitions in the occupied Palestinian territories dominated the front page headlines in Tuesday’s issue of the Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The dailies reported the Health Ministry announcing that a Palestinian died to the highly contagious virus. The fatality was identified as a 60-year-old man from Yatta town, south of Hebron district.
Al-Ayyam reported the ministry announcing seven Palestinian fatalities and 467 confirmed cases in the occupied territories in the last 24 hours.
Among the 467 cases, al-Quds and al-Ayyam elaborated, 108 cases were recorded in Jerusalem district.
The Health Ministry was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida confirming that 545 recovery cases were recorded in the occupied Palestinian territories in the last 24 hours.
According to al-Ayyam, 72 new coronavirus cases were recorded among Palestinians in the diaspora.
The dailies added that four schools were shuttered in the West Bank districts of Nablus, Jenin, Qalqilia and Hebron following the detention of cases among the students.
The latest round of home demolitions also hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
Al-Quds said that Israeli occupation authorities demolished three houses in Beit Iskariya village, south of Bethlehem, and Yaabad town, west of Jenin.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida elaborated that two houses and a water well were demolished in Bethlehem and Jenin district.
According to al-Quds, the occupation authorities seized three water pumps from Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron, and a bulldozer from Salfit district.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the occupation authorities razed Palestinian farmlands south of Qalqilia district.
Moreover, al-Quds reported that Premier Mohammad Shtayyeh will chair a cabinet meeting to discuss the measures to curb the pandemic outbreak.
Shtayyeh was also reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida commending the international community on their mobilization against Israel’s annexation move.
He was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida emphasizing the rule of order and protection of law.
Highlighting the situation in Gaza, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said incendiary balloons launched from the besieged strip started fire in Israeli settlements in Gaza periphery.
The dailies said that the Department of Islamic Endowments (Waqf) in Jerusalem was on alert after they suspected an Israeli aircraft object hovering above Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Quds spotlighted a report published by the Applied Research Institute of Jerusalem (ARIJ) revealing that Israel has seized over 6,000 dunams utilizing a set of racist laws.
The Palestinian Monetary Authority (PMA) was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida stating some employees siphoned funds from the National Bank (TNB) in what the PMA termed as “operational incident”.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Rafah border crossing will be opened for three days starting today in both directions.
Regionally, al-Hayat al-Jadida said that a Palestinian official delegated lead by member of the PLO Executive Committee Azzam al-Ahmad met Lebanese President Michel Aoun to express solidarity with Lebanon.
The dailies said that Lebanon’s Premier Hassan Diab resigned amid widespread anger over last week devastating explosion in Beirut.
