RAMALLAH, Tuesday, July 21, 2020 (WAFA) – The meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri yesterday in Ramallah and developments with coronavirus in Palestine were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
The papers said President Abbas discussed with Shukri the latest developments in Palestine while the Egyptian minister reaffirmed his country’s strong support for the Palestinian efforts for independence.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Abbas also received a phone call from his Chinese counterpart, who expressed China’s support for the Palestinian rights.
Al-Ayyam said the daily corona figures in Palestine are in the hundreds with the recording of 468 new cases.
Al-Quds said coronavirus continues to spread in occupied East Jerusalem while there was a drop in the number of tests conducted and that three diaspora Palestinians have died of coronavirus.
It, however, highlighted as its top front-page headline Israeli control over 700 dunums of land east of Bethlehem and demolition of a house in al-Khader, also in Bethlehem.
The paper quoted Fatah official Jibril Rjoub saying it was agreed with Hamas to hold a national anti-Israeli annexation rally in Gaza.
It said an Israeli court turned down a claim by the settlers to have the tenant of Imperial Hotel in Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem to pay them over $3.5 million for alleged rent.
Al-Ayyam quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying during the cabinet meeting yesterday that his government is going to pay part of the salaries for the public employees before Al-Adha holiday after borrowing from banks.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that for the second time Israel stole the baptismal font from the West Bank village of Tuqua.
It said Palestinian police arrested a man in Hebron on suspicion of killing his daughter nine years ago.
