RAMALLAH, Monday, July 20, 2020 (WAFA) – Chinese President Xi Jinping today emphasized that his country’s position on the Palestine question in consistent and clear.
Speaking over the phone with President Mahmoud Abbas, Xi emphasized, as reported by Xinhua, that the Palestine question, which has always been at the core issue of the Middle East issue, concerns regional peace and stability, international fairness and justice, as well as human conscience and credibility, saying that China's position on the Palestine question is consistent and clear.
Tackling the two-state solution to the conflict, he said that his country supports the two-state solution as the right direction, and sticks to dialogue and negotiations on an equal footing, noting that the international community should take an objective and fair position and build up efforts for promoting peace.
On the creation of the Palestinian state, he reaffirmed China’s support to the establishment of the independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also stressed his country’s rejection of Israel’s endeavors to annex large swaths of the occupied West Bank and of any unilateral measures that undermine the prospects of peace and stability.
He tackled President Mahmoud Abbas’ initiative to convene an international peace conference based on relevant UN resolutions to end the Israeli occupation and establish the independent Palestinian state, and reiterated his country’s support for this initiative.
Discussing efforts to advance the Middle East peace process, Xi said that China deems it important to revive the stalled process based on the UN resolutions and the two-state solution, and was willing to play a constructive role in this regard, including in supporting the Quartet’s efforts.
Meanwhile, Abbas thanked China for helping Palestine fight the novel coronavirus pandemic and offering economic and political support to the Palestinian people.
He underscored Palestine’s eagerness to reinforce bilateral historic relations with China, and commended China on its positions in support of peace making based on the UN resolutions and rejection of unilateral moves in violation of UN resolutions, particularly Israel’s annexation move.
