RAMALLAH, June 5, 2011 (WAFA) - Palestinians Sunday commemorate the 44th anniversary of Naksa Day: the June 5, 1967 war, in which Israel occupied the West Bank including East Jerusalem, as well as Sinai and the Golan Heights.
The 1967 six-day war comprised a series of Israeli-Arab battles between Israel, Egypt, Syria and Jordan, as well as some Arab armies such as the Iraqi army that was stationed in Jordan at the time.
The war resulted in Israel taking control of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt and the Golan Heights of Syria.
In October, 1967 the UN Security Council issued resolution 242 which required the withdrawal of Israel from the territories it occupied in the June 5, 1967 war.
