ICRC facilitates transfer of 13 released detainees to Gaza

GAZA, June 29, 2026 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Monday that it had facilitated the transfer of 13 released detainees from the Kerem Shalom (Karm Abu Salem) crossing to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the ICRC added that it had helped the 13 released prisoners re-establish contact and reunite with their families, while noting that it facilitated the transfer of over 2,500 released detainees through this mechanism since 2023.

The ICRC affirmed that it has been unable to access Palestinian detainees held in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023, reiterating its call for information regarding the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and for permission to visit them.

It stressed that, under international humanitarian law, detainees must be treated humanely, provided with adequate conditions of detention, and allowed to maintain contact with their families.

It noted that many Palestinian families continue to await information about their detained relatives amid growing concern for their health and safety, emphasizing that it maintains dialogue with the Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees.
