RAMALLAH, October 18, 2026 (WAFA) — Palestinian journalist and detainee Bushra al-Taweel, 33, is enduring harsh conditions in solitary confinement, where Israeli occupation authorities have held her for nearly 50 days, subjecting her to repeated cell raids, beatings, tear gas spraying, verbal abuse and other forms of mistreatment, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said on Sunday.
In a statement issued following a recent visit, the society said al-Taweel reported repeated raids on her cell, during which she was beaten and exposed to tear gas. The most recent incident occurred two days before the visit. She also reported ongoing harassment and insults, while surveillance cameras monitor her around the clock.
Regarding her health, al-Taweel suffers from dryness affecting her eyes, skin and hands, as well as numbness in her hands caused by handcuffs. She had also been suffering from scabies before being transferred to solitary confinement, amid harsh detention conditions and deprivation of basic necessities, the society said.
Her living conditions are extremely difficult, with insufficient food supplies and no choice but to drink tap water despite its yellowish discoloration. She also lacks clean clothes and the means to wash them. The bedding is poor and heavily soiled, leaving her feeling as though she is sleeping directly on the floor, while the blanket is also in poor condition.
Al-Taweel said she was transferred from Damon Prison to a solitary confinement section at Ramla Prison without being told the reason. On October 4, 2026, she was made to sign documents indicating that she would be transferred to Damon Prison, but was instead taken to solitary confinement at Ohaley Oz Prison in Beersheba, where she remains detained.
