Occupation authorities close Ibrahimi Mosque to Muslim worshippers under pretext of Jewish holidays

RAMALLAH, November 6, 2026 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs stated that Israeli occupation authorities have decided to completely close the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron to Muslim worshippers and visitors. The closure runs from after Friday prayers until Saturday night under the pretext of Jewish holidays, clearing the way for colonists to storm the site.

In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry affirmed that the occupation's measures constitute a flagrant violation of freedom of worship and a blatant infringement on the sanctity of the Ibrahimi Mosque as an exclusively Islamic endowment. These measures include preventing worshippers and Awqaf employees from entering the mosque and banning the call to prayer throughout the closure period, representing a clear attempt to impose a temporal and spatial division on the site, said the ministry.

The ministry stressed that these systematic violations and intensified restrictions around the Old City are part of a policy aimed at Judaizing holy sites.

It called on international and human rights institutions to intervene urgently and pressure the occupation authorities to halt these violations and protect Islamic holy sites.
