NEW YORK, May 7, 2010 (WAFA)– New Yorkers will gather outside of Israeli diamond magnate Lev Leviev’s New York store this Saturday, on a weekend in which many New Yorkers shop for Mother's Day gifts, Adalah-New York said Friday in a press release.

 Participants will sing songs and perform dances and chants that educate shoppers about Leviev's violations of human rights through his diamond production in Angola and his participation in Israeli settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian West Bank. The event will celebrate the victories of worldwide campaigns that draw attention to Leviev’s egregious practices.

 Leviev is facing a growing international boycott movement. UNICEF, The British Government, and major Hollywood stars have all distanced themselves from Leviev. The investment firm BlackRock and the Swedish government recently sold off their shares of Leviev’s company Africa-Israel. In March, Danske Bank, Denmark's largest financial enterprise, officially blacklisted Leviev's Africa-Israel Investments, along with 24 other companies involved in settlement construction. The Norwegian government has also been asked to sell its pension holdings in Africa-Israel over ethical concerns.

 Leviev's companies Africa Israel and Leader, have built Jewish-only homes on Palestinian land in the Israeli settlements of Zufim, Mattityahu East, Har Homa and Maale Adumim, impoverishing and displacing Palestinian communities while violating international law. Leviev has also funded the settlement organization the Land Redemption Fund. Through his diamond mining activities, Leviev has committed abuses against workers in Angola and Namibia.
