NEW YORK, March 17, 2010 (WAFA)- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called ifor calm and restraint in Jerusalem following the clashes that took place between the Palestinians and the occupation forces in occupied East Jerusalem.
Ki-Moon said that 'the status of Jerusalem is the subject of final negotiations', and reconfirmed the' clear 'that' the Israeli settlements are illegal from the standpoint of international law.
In Amman, King of Jordan bdullah II asked today, the international community to take a firm stand, and take action fast, direct and effective to halt unilateral actions in the occupied Palestinian territory, especially the provocative actions aimed at changing the identity of Jerusalem, threatening the holy sites there.
He warned during a meeting of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of Catherine Ashton, the seriousness of Israeli actions in Jerusalem, saying that Jerusalem is a red line that cannot be silent about Israel's attempts to change the facts therein, and discharged from the population of Arab Muslims and Christians.
In Paris, France announced its strong condemnation of clashes that took place in Jerusalem today between Palestinian youths and Israeli occupying forces. it explained that the situation is of concern, calling on the parties to do everything possible to avoid escalation, which is very harmful to peace efforts.
The Spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry Bernard Valero said in a statement today, the Israeli authorities to refrain from taking any decisions that would hamper the chances of resuming negotiations with the Palestinians and endangers the two-state solution.
The Spokesman stressed France's attachment to resume negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, adding that Israeli settlement activities, both in the West Bank or in occupied East Jerusalem, are illegal according to international law.
In Damascus, the Syrian Cabinet condemned the Israeli occupation crimes against our people in the occupied Palestinian territories and against the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque and eraseing the Arab identity and target position and spiritual heritage.
It considered, escalating Israeli actions in defiance of the international community and in contradiction with international conventions and international laws and norms, humanitarian and undermining the prospects for peace and the process of security and stability in the region.
It called upon Islamic countries of the world and organizations of international legitimacy and legal bodies and human, bear the historical responsibility, ethical and not to overlook Israel's crimes and put an end to its racist and expansionist schemes.
