BUENOS AIRES, March 13, 2010 (WAFA)- Argentina strongly deplored the announcement of the decision of the Israeli Government to construct 1,600 new housing units in East Jerusalem, The Argentinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a press release.

“The Israeli decision to continue the construction of settlements in East Jerusalem contravenes the International law, violates the Security Council and the UN General Assembly Resolutions, and constitutes an obstacle for the resumption of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians,” the press release added.

It added: “The Argentinean Government calls Israel to halt immediately and completely the construction of the illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as a proof of her commitment to the agreements and the Middle East peace process, and recognition of the efforts of the International Community for a just and lasting peace in the region.”
