RAMALLH, December 8, 2009 (WAFA)- Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) revealed that the cultivated area with field crops, fruit trees, vegetables, and cut flowers in the Palestinian Territory amounted to 1,854 thousand dunums.

PCBS said, a statistical data on agriculture statistics in the Palestinian Territory for the agricultural year 2007/2008, data reveals that the cultivated area with field crops, fruit trees, vegetables, and cut flowers in the Palestinian Territory amounted to 1,854 thousand dunums (1 dunum=1000m²) , compared with 1,835 thousand dunums in 2006/2007. 

It noted, fruit trees constituted 63.2% from the total cultivated area of the Palestinian Territory. While field crops and vegetables comprised 26.7% and 10.1% of the cultivated Palestinian areas respectively; 72.0% of the cultivated area in Gaza Strip relies on irrigation compared with only 8.7% in the West Bank.

 It stated, the livestock production was as follows:  cattle, 32,986 in 2007/2008 compared with 34,255 in 2006/2007, sheep 688,899 in 2007/2008 compared with 744,764 in 2006/2007, and322,082 goats in 2007/2008 compared with 343,565  in 2006/2007.  The number of chicken reported in 2007/2008 were 22,682 thousand broilers , and 2,695 thousand layers .

The value added of agricultural production of the Palestinian Territory amounted to about US$ 881 million which shows increase compared with 2007/2008 that amounted to US$ 496 million.  Plant production constituted US$ 686 million of the value added of agricultural production (of which US$ 501 million in the West Bank and US$185  million in Gaza Strip), The value of agricultural production of the Palestinian Territory amounted to about US$ 1,358  million, of which 63.0% for plant production and 73.0% for livestock production.  The cost of intermediate consumption was about US$ 477 million, of which 35.4% of plant production and 64.6% of livestock production.
