Israeli colonists storm Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under heavy police protection

JERUSALEM, April 22, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli colonists stormed on Wednesday the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, under heavy protection from Israeli forces.

The Jerusalem Governorate reported that dozens of colonists stormed the mosque's courtyards and performed provocative Talmudic rituals, including "epic prostration," near Bab al-Rahma and the Dome of the Rock.

It added that groups affiliated with the so-called "Temple Mount" movement circulated inciting calls to mobilize colonists to storm the site and raise Israeli flag in its courtyards.

This coincided with the continued tightening of security measures by Isreali police, including the installation of checkpoints, road closures, and restrictions on worshippers’ access to Al-Aqsa, with reports of ID confiscations and searches.

Since the beginning of April, the frequency of incursions has increased, with colonists performing public rituals and "collective prostration" within the mosque's courtyards.

On April 12, the extremist Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque and performed Talmudic rituals accompanied by colonists, in his third incursion since the beginning of the year and the 16th since taking office.
