SALVADOR DE BAHIA, November 21, 2009 (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas said, today, that our people want peace for our children and the Israeli children to live without fear, and looks forward to the day where it will be free of the occupation; an ugly form of slavery.
The president added, in a speech pronounced in Salvador De Bahia, on the occasion of the Black Awareness Day which symbolizes freedom from slavery, in the presence of the Brazilian President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva, “we have paid tremendous efforts for peace, but, unfortunately, after 18 years of negotiations, started to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territory in 1967, we are still under occupation.”
He went on: “we thought the Israeli side would respond to international demands, and respect the international legitimacy and UN resolutions, but instead, Israelis are continuing with their ethnic cleansing policies to the Palestinian presence in East Jerusalem, and oppressive practices, and massacres. The goldstone report had revealed a real need to end the occupation.”
President Abbas continued on saying that the continuity of the occupation necessarily means a continuation of massacres and crimes against our people.
