RAMALLAH, September 30, 2009 (WAFA)- The PLO Executive Committee held Wednesday the Israeli government responsible for the aggression last Sunday of Jewish extremists, under the protection of Israeli soldiers, against Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

 In a meeting headed by President Abbas, the Executive Committee condemned such an act, saying it violates the sanctity of the Holy Shrines. “This Israeli policy aims at escalating the religious conflict, as well the Judiasation of the Holy City, separating it of the West Bank.”

It called upon the international community, specially the UN Security Council to act against the Israeli plans,  in which the Security Council has condemned in its resolution 252.

The Executive Committee commended the U.S. President Barack Obama before the UN General Assembly in which he called for ending the Israeli occupation of that started in 1967, and emphasized  that America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements, calling for two-state solution.

The Executive Committee stressed on the importance of building a political process based on the Road Map mainly the halt off settlement activities, and adhering to the international reference of the negotiation which considers 1967 borders as the basis for implementing the two-state solution.
