CAIRO, May 17, 2009 (WAFA) - Head of Fateh Parliamentary Bloc Azzam Al-Ahmad, said, Sunday, that Egypt intends to open Rafah Crossing continuously if the factions achieve an agreement.
Al-Ahmad told reporters in Cairo that Egypt's Intelligence Chief, Omar Suleiman, told the Palestinian factions that Egypt will take steps on the ground to guarantee a continued opening of the Rafah crossing, the Gaza Strip’s only portal to the outside world.
He also said that Suleiman pledged that his country would repair the Crossing, pointing out that Egypt contacted Israel and the United States in this regard.
Al-Ahmad also affirmed that Egypt will work jointly with the world to rebuild the Gaza Strip as well as to help the Palestinian people achieve their aspirations of independence and freedom.
Earlier on Saturday, Suleiman said that his country will not let the Palestinian national dialogue fail, stressing that an agreement should be reached next July.
