Palestinian Family Receives NIS200,000 in PCHR Lawsuit Against IOF

GAZA, February 11, 2009 (WAFA)- The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) Legal Aid Unit has won a settlement of NIS200,000 for the family of Sayed Saleh Abu Safra, from Um Al-Nasser village in the northern Gaza Strip, who was deliberately killed by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) in December 2003.

After several sessions in the Israeli court, the sum of money, approximately $50,000, will be paid to the Abu Safra family in exchange for the case being closed.

Sayed Saleh Abu Safra was killed by Israeli soldiers, near 'Nissanit' colony, who shot him in the head. On December 11, 2003, the family authorized PCHR to take legal action concerning his death. PCHR submitted a complaint to the Israeli Army Ministry, demanding an investigation into the case, prosecution of all those responsible, and compensation for the Abu Safra family.

PCHR lawyer, Eyad Alami, said the they will continue to use judiciary means to guarantee prosecution of war criminals, and to secure reparation for the victims and survivors.
