President Abbas Commemorates 59th Anniversary of NAKBA
RAMALLAH, May 15, 2007, (WAFA0- President Mahmoud Abbas asserted Tuesday that the Palestinian people and Leadership would never give up their legitimate rights, ending the Israeli occupation, establishing the Palestinian state with Jerusalem, as its capital and the right of return according to the UN resolution 194.
In a televised statement commemorating the 59th anniversary of the Palestinian NAKBA (catastrophe), President Abbas asserted that the Arab Initiative, based on peace for land, is a historical chance for Israel and for the whole region, to end decades of wars and tortures.
President said that for 59 years the Palestinian people have been suffering the most atrocious aggressions.
"We are the generation of NAKBA remember the dark days when we were eradicated from our own lands in 1948 and our people was expelled," he said.
President called on the international community, especially the Quartet Committee, to practice its fair role to end the siege against the Palestinian people.
NAKBA is the term which refers to the Zionist ethnical cleansing practices by Zionist gangs in 1948 when thousands of Palestinians were murdered, at least 750,000 were exiled and at least 450 villages were demolished and the state of Israel was established on their rubble.
