RAMALLAH, Thursday, May 14, 2020 (WAFA) – The Israeli army shooting and killing a 15-year-old Palestinian boy in Fawwar refugee camp in the south of the West Bank and the speech by President Mahmoud Abbas on the 72nd anniversary of the Palestinian nakba, or catastrophe, were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
While al-Quds had the killing of the boy as its main front-page story, al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam had the president’s speech as their main top front-page story.
All three papers, nevertheless, gave prominence on their front page to both of these topics.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Israeli army continued to raid and harass the town of Yabad in the north of the West Bank after the killing of an Israeli soldier there.
It quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that the coming period is going to be very difficult if Israel proceeds with plans to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territory.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds also reported on Shtayyeh’s remarks.

It quoted the Ministry of Education saying that the new school year will start on September 6, as it printed a picture and published a report on preparation to hold the high school final matriculation exams, the tawjihi, at the end of this month.
The paper said Israeli police assaulted a Palestinian woman and her brother in Issawyieh neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem while Israeli settlers wrote hate graffiti on a wall of a house in the village of Bittin, near Ramallah.
Al-Quds said Hamas and the Islamic Jihad said they will not attend the leadership meeting called for by President Abbas that will be held in Ramallah on Saturday to discuss action if Israel proceeds with plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
It quoted Hamas leader Ismail Hanyieh calling in President Abbas to convene a meeting for the provisional leadership assembly to discuss re-organizing the home front.
It said Israeli police released leading Jerusalem figure, Bilal Natsheh, after interrogating him for several hours.
It reported about a new Israeli plan to build an 800-meter long tunnel road from Damascus Gate in Jerusalem to Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and that Palestinian shopkeepers and residents have objected to this project.
