Coming period is very critical, says Abu Rudeineh

CAIRO, December 11, 2017 (WAFA) – The coming period is very critical and requires bold Palestinian and Arab decisions, Presidential spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said on Monday, stressing once again Palestinian rejection and denunciation of the US decision recognizing Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

“Our message to the entire world is that Jerusalem is a Palestinian city and the US decision is rejected and denounced,” he told WAFA. “What is required now are bold Palestinian and Arab decisions for the coming stage, which is very important and very critical. The Palestinians and Arabs should stand together.”

He said President Mahmoud Abbas is going to meet on Monday with his Egyptian counterpart Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo to discuss various issues, mainly those relating to the Palestinian cause and other common Arab concerns, as well as the agenda of the upcoming Islamic summit.

Turkey has called for an emergency meeting for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to discuss the implications of the US decision on Jerusalem. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday in Istanbul. Abbas is expected to address the summit.

President Abbas has already met with King Abdullah II of Jordan, during which the two leaders discussed the impact of the US decision recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital on the overall situation in the Arab region.

Abu Rudeineh said the president is continuing with his efforts as Palestinian reconciliation is underway, stressing that the leadership “relies on the unity of the Palestinian people since it is the only way to face any coming crises and big challenges.”
