Serbian Orthodox Church expresses solidarity with Palestinian people

RAMALLAH, October 3, 2026 (WAFA) — Ramzi Khoury, member of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee and head of the Presidential Higher Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, received a letter from Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, head of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, expressing the Church’s solidarity with and support for the Palestinian people amid the difficult circumstances in the Holy Land.

In its letter, the Serbian Orthodox Church expressed deep concern over the deteriorating conditions of Christians and other residents of the Holy Land, as well as the suffering, persecution, and discrimination they are facing, stressing that the suffering of innocent people, regardless of their religion or affiliation, is incompatible with human dignity.

The letter emphasized the importance of protecting the Christian presence in the Holy Land, noting that the presence of Christians there for more than 2,000 years is an essential part of the region’s history and living heritage.

It  further warned that any attempt to exclude or marginalize any religious or ethnic community would undermine the social and religious balance of the Holy Land.

The Church stressed the need to respect human dignity, international law, and religious rights, and expressed its support for the Palestinian people amid their suffering. It affirmed that it would continue to raise the issue of protecting the Christian presence and promoting peace in the Middle East in its meetings with political officials and representatives of international institutions, while seeking to open avenues for dialogue and peace and reach a just resolution to the outstanding issues.
