RAMALLAH, Saturday, May 9, 2020 (WAFA) – Extremist Jewish settlers today chopped down around 40 olive trees belonging to Palestinians in the village of Al-Mughayyir, near the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, local sources said.
The trees belonged to two Palestinian villagers from Al-Mughayyir. Israeli soldiers who were patrolling the scene reportedly prevented the two villagers from entering their farm and inspecting the damaged trees.
Settler violence is commonplace across the occupied West Bank, and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities as the Palestinian Authority has no jurisdiction over Israeli Jewish settlers.
Palestinians and rights groups have repeatedly blamed Israel for fostering a “culture of impunity” for Jewish settlers committing acts of violence against Palestinians.
