Premier warns against Israeli plans to annex parts of West Bank

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, September 10, 2019 (WAFA) - Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh warned today of Israeli plans to annex parts of the West Bank as part of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s attempts to win votes in the upcoming elections.

This came during a meeting on Tuesday at his office in Ramallah with the Spanish Consul General in Jerusalem Ignacio García-Valdecasa where he briefed him on the latest political developments.

"The land of Palestine is not part of Netanyahu‘s election campaign, and if he believes that by annexing the settlement blocs he will win electoral votes in the short term, he and Israel are the long-term losers," he said.

“Netanyahu is the chief destroyer of the peace process, and any foolish action he commits will leave negative consequences on him locally and internationally,” said Shtayyeh.

He called on Spain and the European Union to speed up their recognition of the Palestinian state in order to support the two-state solution in light of the dangers facing the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
