Romanian public figures call on government to pressure Israel over Gaza aggression, colonies expansion

RAMALLAH, June 12, 2025 (WAFA) – Over 500 Romanian cultural and artistic figures have signed an open letter urging their government to pressure Israel to end what they describe as a "genocidal war" in Gaza and halt the expansion of colonies in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The signatories called on President Nicușor Dan and the Romanian government to condition diplomatic, trade, and cultural relations with Israel on its compliance with international law. They also demanded that Romania work with the European Union to suspend its partnership agreement with Israel and impose sanctions in response to ongoing violations.

The letter emphasized solidarity with Palestinian civilians, particularly artists, educators, filmmakers, writers, and journalists in Gaza, many of whom have been killed or are struggling to survive amid siege, famine, and the collapse of basic services.
