TEL AVIV, June 12, 2025 (WAFA) – The Israeli opposition failed to pass a bill to dissolve Knesset, which was voted on early Thursday morning.
61 MKs opposed the bill, while 53 supported it.
The vote was divided within the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism bloc, with MKs from the Agudat Yisrael party voting in favor of the bill, while MKs from Degel HaTorah, a member of the bloc, opposed it.
This move followed a dispute over a bill to draft more ultra-Orthodox Jews into military service.
On June 25, 2024, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that military service would be compulsory for ultra-Orthodox Jews and that financial support for religious institutions whose students refuse to be drafted would be suspended.
