Weather forecast: Heavy heat stress to affect region

 

RAMALLAH, Friday, August 23, 2019 (WAFA) – A heavy heat stress is set to affect the region today, paving the way to hot to very hot conditions in daytime and relatively hot to hot conditions in nighttime, said the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Temperature is set to further rise and approach 5°C above the seasonal average. Wind is northwesterly to northeasterly and light to moderate with occasional gusts. Sea waves are low.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 32°C and a low of 22°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 30°C and a low of 21°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 42°C and a low of 28°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 32°C and a low of 25°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

Saturday’s temperature is set to drop by 2°C with hot to very hot conditions in daytime and relatively hot conditions in nighttime.

Sunday’s temperature is set to remain steady with hot to very hot conditions in daytime and relatively hot conditions in nighttime.

No significant change is expected in the weather conditions on Monday.

PMD warns people against prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the peak hours of the day from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm local time, and against setting fire to areas where dry grass has grown.
