Japan funds construction of school in Urif village

 

RAMALLAH, November 7, 2017 (WAFA) – Japan’s ambassador for the Palestinian Authority Takeshi Okubo and head of Urif village council, in the Nablus district, signed on Tuesday in Ramallah a grant contract for one Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) for a total amount of $90,565, according to a press release.

The fund will go toward building the Urif mixed school with four classrooms to serve 108 first grade students.

“This project aims at securing extra classrooms and creating more efficient learning environment,” said the press release issued by the Japan representative office.

Okubo congratulated Urif Village Council and wished them success in their project. He emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance amounting to approximately $1.8 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
