Israeli settlers attack Palestinian olive pickers near Nablus

NABLUS, October 26, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli settlers attacked on Thursday Palestinian olive pickers in the village of Deir al-Hatab, east of Nablus, according to Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlers’ activities in the area.

He told WAFA that dozens of settlers from the illegal settlement of Alon Moreh built on land expropriated from Deir al-Hatab attacked landowners and their families as they were picking olives in their land located near the settlement.

A video of the attack showed settlers armed with clubs attacking a family of Palestinian farmers and beating them up while the unarmed farmers were trying to defend themselves.Three Palestinians, a woman and two men, were injured.

Settlers regularly attack Palestinian farmers during the annual olive harvest season and either steal their crops or prevent them from reaching their lands, in addition to destroying or cutting down olive trees.

Solidarity groups usually accompany farmers as they harvest in land near the settlements to shield them from settlers’ attacks.

The olive harvest season is considered the most important for thousands of Palestinian families in the Israeli-occupied territories due to its contribution to the families’ income bracket.
