RAMALLAH, July 29, 2017 (WAFA) – The protests that raged in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in support of Al-Aqsa Mosque that claimed the life of one Palestinian in Gaza were the highlight of the Saturday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
After 14 days of restriction, Israel reopened all gates to Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday afternoon allowing free access to Palestinians of all ages to enter and preform prayer in the Muslim holy compound.
The papers said Israeli police restricted entry to the mosque for the Friday noon prayer to men over 50 years of age forcing thousands to pray in the Jerusalem streets outside the Old City wall.
Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip demonstrated in protest against the Israeli measures against Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest site after Mecca and Medina.
The papers said the Israeli army attacked the protesters killing one in Gaza, 16 years old, and injuring 250 others in the West Bank and Gaza.
The papers also said one Palestinian was shot dead south of Bethlehem after he allegedly attempted to attack Israelis near Gush Etzion settlement bloc.
Another Palestinian from Hizma, east of Jerusalem, died of wounds sustained three days earlier during confrontations with Israeli soldiers.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the zoo in Qalqilya was not spared by the Israeli army. It said soldiers fired tear gas at the zoo as people were spending time there causing scores of suffocation cases mainly among children and women.
It also said two Palestinians drowned in the Gaza sea.
Al-Ayyam said the European Union restated its position that says East Jerusalem is occupied territory.
Al-Quds said the Israeli army informed the family of Omar Al-Abed who attacked and killed three Israeli settlers in the West Bank that its home is going to be demolished within 72 hours.
It said Jordanians demonstrated in Amman after the Friday prayer in support of Al-Aqsa Mosque and against the killing of two Jordanians by an Israeli embassy security guard.
