Exports, Imports down during September 2016, says Statistics Bureau

RAMALLAH, November 22, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) Tuesday released its ‘External Trade in Goods’ report for September 2016, revealing that exports and imports have decreased by 10.6% and 6.7%, respectively, compared to August 2016.

PCBS said exports increased in September 2016 by 18.9% compared to September 2015 and reached $75.4 million.

Meanwhile, exports to Israel decreased during September 2016 by 12.5% compared to August 2016, representing 88.9% of total exports for September 2016.

On the other hand, exports to other countries increased by 8.2% during the same period compared to the previous month.

The report said imports decreased in September 2016 by 6.7% compared to August 2016. It also decreased by 7.8% compared to September 2015, reaching $415.3 million.

Imports from Israel decreased by 2.2% in September 2016 compared to August 2016, and represented 60.6% of total imports in September 2016. At the same time, imports from other countries decreased by 12.9% during the same period compared to the previous month.

The trade balance, which represents the difference between exports and imports, showed a decrease in trade deficit by 5.8% in September 2016 compared to the previous month. It also decreased by 12.1% compared to September 2015, reaching $339.9 million.
