JERUSALEM, April 27, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli soldiers on Wednesday fatally shot two Palestinians, including a woman, at Qalandia checkpoint, to the north of Jerusalem, according to local sources.
WAFA correspondent said Israeli Border Police officers opened gunfire at the two and left them to bleed while lying on the ground helplessly, and without allowing medical teams to provide them with first aid. The two then succumbed to their wounds.
The woman was identified as Maram Saleh Abu Ismail, 24-year-old, from the nearby town of ar-Ram. The other one has not been identified yet.
Israeli police claimed, in a follow-up statement, that the woman had attempted to stab Israeli soldiers stationed at the checkpoint, before the latter responded by opening gunfire at her.
The Israeli military closed the checkpoint shortly after the incident, and attacked passengers who were present at the scene with teargas canisters to disperse them.
