RAMALLAH, April 26, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces on Tuesday cracked down on a non-violent rally organized by Palestinian journalists at Ofer prison checkpoint, southwest of Ramallah, in solidarity with Palestinian journalist Omar Nazzal, who was recently detained by Israel.
WAFA correspondent said soldiers stationed at Ofer checkpoint used teargas canisters and stun grenades to disperse the journalists, causing multiple cases of suffocation among them due to excessive teargas inhalation.
At least one journalist, Saed Huwwari of Reuters news agency, was hit with a stun grenade and injured in his chest.
Omar Nazzal, a member of the general secretariat of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS), was detained by Israeli officials on Saturday at the border between the West Bank and Jordan.
He was seeking to travel to a meeting of the European Federation of Journalists in Bosnia.
