RAMALLAH, December 16,
2015 (WAFA) – The statements made by US Secretary of State John Kerry, during
which he warned about the failure of the two- state solution during an
interview with the New Yorker magazine, was the main news item
that hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
Kerry was reported in
al-Quds as expressing his disappointment with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu and his belief that Israel would lose its nature as a
“democratic Jewish state”.
He was reported in
al-Ayyam as lambasting Netanyahu’s policy and settlement construction and
expressing his concerns about the repercussions of a possible collapse of the
Palestinian Authority (PA).
He was also reported
in al-Hayat al-Jadida as expressing his exasperation with ongoing settlement
construction and Palestinian house demolitions.
He was quoted in
al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida as stating: “Israel is headed toward becoming a
unitary state that is an impossible entity to manage.”
Furthermore, the three
dailies highlighted Israeli forces' and settlers' assaults against Palestinian
people and property in the occupied Palestinian Territories.
Al-Quds reported that
Israeli police detained a Palestinian girl from the Jerusalem neighborhood of
Kufr ‘Aqab purportedly for planning to stab soldiers.
It also reported that
several Palestinians were shot and injured during clashes with Israeli forces
in the Jerusalem neighborhood of al-‘Issawiya.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat
al-Jadida also reported in this regard that Israeli police notified the family
of Bahaa’ ‘Alayyan of orders to demolish their family house in the Jerusalem
neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabir.
They also reported
that Israeli occupation authorities issued administrative orders to expel a
number of Palestinian youths and teens from Jerusalem.
Furthermore, al-Ayyam
and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted Israeli ‘Defense’ Minister Moshe Yaalon’s
remarks about prosecuting the Jews responsible for the arson attack against
Dawabsheh family.
He was reported in
al-Ayyam as stating that he knows those responsible for the arson murder
attack, but that there “wasn't enough evidence” to bring them to justice.
Moreover, al-Ayyam
highlighted the recent minor Palestinian government reshuffle.
Prime Minister Rami
Hamdallah was reported in al-Ayyam as stating: “The government reshuffle would
consolidate the efforts to end the division.”
Hamas was reported in
al-Ayyam as slamming the government reshuffle as “illegal” that would “entrench
the division”.
Furthermore, the three
dailies reported that Denmark’s largest pension fund has divested from
Heidelberg Cement, a German company, over the latter’s links to the Israeli
occupation in the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat
al-Jadida explained that the German company is involved in the extraction of
natural resources in the West Bank.
Highlighting a Haaretz
investigative report, al-Qud reported that major Israeli companies, including
Tnuva and Delek Group, are supporting settlement construction in the West Bank.
Finally, al-Ayyam
reported that Saudi Arabia has announced the creation of 34-nation Islamic
coalition to “fight terrorism”.
Palestinian leadership
was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat as welcoming the creation of the
coalition.
