RAMALLAH, December 12, 2015 (WAFA) - EUPOL COPPS facilitated a study trip to Romania as part of its support to the Palestinian criminal justice institutions in Palestine, said a EUPOL COPPS press release on Friday.
The main objective of the study visit is to
explore existing system of cooperation between the police and prosecution, said
the release.
With this visit, the Palestinian
Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), the Corruption Crimes Court (CCC), together
with the Palestinian Police are encouraged in their work to fight corruption
and to further enhance their mutual cooperation in the areas of collecting
evidences, reporting corruption crimes and standardizing the procedures between
both institutions, stated the EUPOL COPPS.
It noted that the two
institutions together with the CCC studied the existing system of cooperation
in Romania between the police and the prosecution on corruption cases from
theoretical and practical point of view.
During the trip, the delegation visited The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) – the main anticorruption prosecution office specialized in combating high and medium level corruption which set up its own investigation police team and all necessary technical tools in discovering, investigating and indicting such cases.
They also visited The National
Integrity Agency (ANI) – an independent body specialized in verifying assets
acquired during exercising public functions, conflicts of interest and
incompatibilities in addition to other key bodies.
The delegation consisted of four members of the Anti Corruption prosecution headed by Akram Al-Khatib, Deputy Attorney General/PACC, Saad Al-Sowaiti, Head of CCC, and two members of the Criminal Investigation Depart of the Palestinian Police Headed by Lot. Colonel Mohammad Al-Mashni. The participants showed a strong interest throughout the five-day trip, which took place from the 6th until the 10th of December.
