JERUSALEM,
December 10, 2015 (WAFA) – Sweden contributed SEK 190 million, ($22 million) to
the Palestinian Partnership for Infrastructure Development Multi-Donor Trust
Fund (PID MDTF) administered by the World Bank.
The
Palestinian Authority will support the contribution by the Swedish
International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) to implement prior
activities regarding water and urban development, carrying out reforms in the
water sector, and improving the harsh conditions of water and sanitation in the
Gaza Strip.
According to the statement issued by World
Bank, the fund will support Palestinian local governments to improve service
delivery and effective local governance through incentive program that links
expenses with achievements.
PID MDTF
was found in 2012 with the aim of improving coverage, quality, and sustainability of infrastructure
in the occupied Palestinian Territories through financial and technical support in the water, urban development, and energy sectors.
With the latest contribution, the total amount allocated
to PID MDTF is about $101 million in which Sweden has contributed so far an
amount equivalent to about $40 million.
To be noted, donors that are currently contributing to the
fund include: the governments of Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France,
Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Sweden.
