RAMALLAH, December 10, 2015 (WAFA) – In a statement issued Wednesday, Saeb Erekat,
Secretary-General of the PLO's Executive Committee, condemned Israeli
Military Court’s conviction of Khalida Jarrar, a member of the
Palestinian Legislative Council.
Erekat described the conviction of Jarrar as “a
reflection of the daily oppression and Apartheid policies imposed by
Israel against the Palestinian people.”
Khalida Jarra is a member of the popular Front for the
Liberation of Palestine and an active member of the National Committee to
oversee Palestine efforts at
the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Erekat said convicting Jarrar is a politically
motivated act against a Palestinian official.
Israeli army forces’ invasion of Jarrar’s home in Ramallah and
subsequently kidnapping her occurred a few days after Palestine acceded to
the Rome Statute of the ICC, Erekat said.
He added that Israel has imprisoned over 800.000
Palestinians since 1967, including Palestinian members of parliament.
Erekat considered Israel’s detention of Jarrar a clear
message that Israel is opposing Palestinian people's legitimate and
peaceful efforts toward achieving freedom and justice.
He called on the entire international community to hold Israel
accountable of systematically depriving Palestinian people’s right to life
and liberty.
