Egypt rejects Israeli finance minister’s statements on Sinai

CAIRO, October 7, 2026 (WAFA) – The Republic of Egypt has categorically rejected any attempt to invoke Sinai in statements made by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich over the past two days.

An informed Egyptian source described the statements as empty threats and a blatant attempt to serve electoral objectives through inflammatory rhetoric.

The source explained that the statements, which coincided with Egypt’s celebrations marking the 53rd anniversary of the victory in the October War, do not warrant any additional assurances regarding the Republic’s ability to protect its territory and safeguard its independence against any threats.

The source described Smotrich’s latest statements regarding Sinai and the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip as a clear attempt to use inflammatory rhetoric for electoral purposes.

He said the international community is aware that the Israeli occupation bears responsibility for making living conditions in Gaza nearly impossible in an attempt to push residents to leave their homeland and bring an end to the Palestinian cause, a policy that Egypt has rejected and will not participate in.

He also stressed Egypt’s rejection of any attempt to drag its name into political posturing, saying that it remains committed to its position of rejecting interference in the internal affairs of any state.
