Fatah delegation briefs Arab League secretary-general on latest political developments and efforts to end Palestinian suffering

 

 

CAIRO, October 7, 2026 (WAFA) – A delegation from the Fatah Central Committee briefed Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy today on the latest political and national developments, as well as the ongoing efforts at various levels to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The delegation included Secretary-General of the Fatah Central Committee Jibril Rajoub, Central Committee member and former Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League Muhannad Al-Aklouk, and First Counsellor Tamer Al-Tayeb of the Palestinian mission to the Arab League. Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and Head of its Palestine and Occupied Arab Lands Sector, Ambassador Fayed Mustafa, also attended the meeting.

The meeting, held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, addressed the latest political and field developments, as well as efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The discussions also focused on strengthening the humanitarian response and enabling the State of Palestine and its national institutions to fulfill their responsibilities in a manner that safeguards the unity of the land, the people, and the Palestinian political system.

It also addressed efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, rebuild Gaza, and support a political process based on international legitimacy resolutions, leading to an end to the occupation and the realization of an independent Palestinian state.

The meeting also addressed the obstacles and impediments imposed by the occupation to holding Palestinian elections, emphasizing the importance of supporting the democratic process to strengthen the unity of the Palestinian political system. Furthermore, it discussed the dangerous situation in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, the ongoing attacks and terrorism by colonists, the withholding of Palestinian funds, and ways to safeguard the Palestinian national project.

The delegation also conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas’ and the Palestinian leadership’s greetings to the Arab League Secretary-General, expressing appreciation for his efforts and support for the Palestinian people’s efforts to secure their legitimate rights.

For his part, the Arab League Secretary-General stressed the importance of Palestinian national unity and cohesion, as well as the need to preserve the foundations of the Palestinian cause and support the two-state solution at this critical stage of the Palestinian people’s struggle.

He reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Arab League and its support for the steadfastness and struggle of the Palestinian people in overcoming the current stage and the humanitarian, political, and security challenges it entails.
