RAMALLAH, August 21, 2026 (WAFA) — Britain, Australia, and Canada have condemned the Israeli military’s decision to close its investigation into the April 1, 2024 attack on a World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid convoy in Gaza that resulted in the killing of seven humanitarian workers.
In a statement, the three countries said the Israeli military had struck the WCK convoy while it was on its way to deliver food to civilians in Gaza, using a drone in an attack that killed seven aid workers, including citizens of the UK and Australia and a Canadian-American national.
“We have consistently pressed Israel to investigate the incident swiftly and thoroughly and to hold those responsible to account,” the countries said, adding that the military’s announcement two days earlier that it would not conduct an investigation, without providing an explanation, was “outrageous.”
The statement noted that “the fact that the Israeli military announced this on World Humanitarian Day makes it particularly egregious, at a time when the world is honoring the courage and sacrifices of humanitarian workers.” It added that “this decision is far too little, far too late. The victims of this incident and their families deserve justice and accountability and that the three governments would continue seeking answers on their behalf.
The countries stressed that the attack on the World Central Kitchen convoy is just one of many incidents in Gaza for which no one has been held accountable. They emphasized that humanitarian workers in Gaza continue their tireless work to assist civilians in dire need, risking their lives in the most dangerous conditions.
The countries stated that “despite the fragile ceasefire, Gaza remains the most dangerous place to deliver aid, where 186 humanitarian workers were killed last year.”
The three countries urged the occupying power “to comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law and to do more to ensure that humanitarian workers can carry out their work safely.” They stressed that “lessons must be learned from this tragedy.”
