RAMALLAH, September 16, 2026 (WAFA) — More than 20 US senators have introduced a resolution calling for Congress to be briefed on acts of violence involving Israeli soldiers and colonists who seize Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank.
A statement issued by the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee last night said more than 20 senators, led by Jeanne Shaheen, Chris Van Hollen, Tim Kaine and Bernie Sanders, had initiated action over settler attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank.
The senators introduced a priority resolution calling on the US State Department to provide Congress with a briefing on escalating violence in the West Bank.
The resolution would require the department to share information obtained through investigations into the killing of US citizens by colonists or Israeli soldiers, as well as its assessment of the human rights situation, particularly with regard to the detention of Palestinian children.
The statement quoted Senator Jeanne Shaheen as saying that “the killings and acts of violence committed by extremist colonists against Palestinians in the West Bank undermine the rule of law and put the two-state solution at risk.”
Senator Chris Van Hollen, for his part, said the time had come to obtain answers regarding the attacks and abuses faced by Palestinians in the West Bank.
Since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in 2023, attacks by Israeli forces and colonist violence against Palestinians and their property in the occupied West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, have escalated.
According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, settlers carried out 628 attacks in August, including 157 in Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate, 137 in Nablus, 120 in Hebron, 73 in Bethlehem, 40 in Tubas, 36 in Jenin, and 31 in Jerusalem.
Settler violence resulted in the killing of 17-year-old Karim Sanad Shalaldeh, who was shot by settlers during an attack on the Hamroush area of Sa'ir town in Hebron Governorate, bringing the number of Palestinians killed by colonist gunfire since the beginning of this year to 25.
Colonist attacks directly injured or otherwise harmed 164 Palestinians, including 20 children and 17 women. Hebron recorded the highest number of affected Palestinians, with 68, followed by Nablus with 50 and Ramallah and al-Bireh with 23.
