Egypt welcomes Ireland's ban on imports from Israeli settlements

RAMALLAH, July 26, 2026 (WAFA) — Egypt welcomed Ireland' 's approval of legislation banning the import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements and the completion of the necessary constitutional and legislative procedures for its enactment.

In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered this step an important stance reflecting a commitment to international law and UN resolutions, and affirming its rejection of illegal Israeli settlement activities that violate the rights of the Palestinian people and undermine the prospects for a just and lasting peace.

The statement also called on European Union member states and the international community to take similar legal and practical measures to ensure they do not directly or indirectly contribute to supporting or sustaining Israeli settlements.

Egypt reiterated its unwavering support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, stressing that achieving security and stability in the Middle East requires ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
