WASHINGTON, June 26, 2026 (WAFA) – Lebanon and Israel signed a framework agreement on Friday following several days of negotiations in Washington.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Lebanese people deserve to live in security and peace, adding that Israel and Lebanon had reached a framework agreement following talks in Washington and that much work still lies ahead.
He described the agreement as an important step toward achieving peace between the two countries, while noting that significant work remains to be done, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Ambassador to Washington Nada Moawad thanked US President Donald Trump on behalf of President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, adding that the signing marks the first step toward restoring the country's sovereignty.
